Evergreen’s TXFC-66L The ‘Quad Twister’

The ultra-light performance wonder from Evergreen's Crossfire Series

Finally time to kick off a series of own tackle writings with a first brief review. After fishing the TXFC-66L ‘Quad Twister’ for a few weeks by now, it was obvious to start with this perfectly crafted and light-weight casting stick by one of the most popular and prolific Japanese rod manufacturers out there.

Initially Evergreen’s ‘Quad Twister’ was supposed to cover the few lightweight lures and rigs I had in my arsenal, but just after a few hours of testing this rod, it became my red-hot favourite. To be perfectly honest, when the TXFC-66L arrived in early March, I was kind of sceptical about the performance of this truly petite casting stick, but it didn’t last long until I became aware of the fact, that there was something special about this rod.

Paired with Daiwas Steez 103HL, the result is a perfectly balanced rod and reel combo of surprising facility that looks almost flawless. The anthracite-colored body of Daiwas magnesium-framed reel and the Crossfire’s blank color go well together while the incredible and handsome detailing of the Steez is a real eye catcher.

Let’s have a closer look on the TXFC-66L’s furnishing.
As part of Evergreens Crossfire series, the ‘Quad Twister’ showcases a bunch of high-quality components and well thought-out features like: the Crossfire spiral guide system, MN top and LDB guide system featuring Fuji’s titanium framed SIC Guides, a titanium colored ECS reel seat with blank touch, the typical Crossfire EVA separate grip shaft and finally the original grip end plate with attached weight-balancer that rounds up the the list of well-chosen ingredients perfectly.

TXFC-66L ‘Quad Twister’ Specifications:

Power Rating: Light
Taper Description: Fast
Lure-weight: 1/8 ~ 1/2 oz

1/4 ~ 1 oz Texas Rig

1/4 ~ 3/8 oz Down-shot Rig
1/4 ~ 1/2 oz Metal Jig, Vibration

While considering the TXFC-66L’s power rating, taper description and the list of recommended lures and baits, the range of applications might feel a bit overrated, but it’s actually not. The contrary is the case.

Besides the applications listed above, I had a lot of fun casting and fishing light-weight cranks and twitch-baits with this rod - ranging from Imaktsu’s Super/Wind Killer Bill, EG’s Super Sledge/Sledge 6SP and various other suspending Minnows up to shallow cranks like Megabass’ Griffon Zero and O.S.P.’s Buzzn’ Crank. Also top-water plugs like MB’s Pop-X and Jackall Bros’ SK-Pop where fun to use.
At all the lure-weight stated by Evergreen corresponds with the experiences I made so far and makes this tiny little stick a real ‘allrounder’ when it comes to lures and baits from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.

On the performance side the last weekend was a real manifestation of the ‘Quad Twister’s ability to handle even big fish in most difficult conditions. While fishing at the lower end of a small dam with strong drift, I had a handful of asps (Aspius aspius) with sizes from 60 to 82cm and estimated weights from 8 to 11lb (there are a few pictures in the Catch Book album).

Amazingly I never had the feeling of ‘hitting the wall’ in terms of stressing the blank material and the rods components. It was a real load test, but more for Evergreen’s Bass Seil in 8lb and the used Super Sledge (and a real treat for the angler).

At all the TXFC-66L is surely worth it’s money and a closer look. The high import price needs to be mentioned, but on the balance you ‘ll get a perfectly tuned rod of compelling beauty and finishing, that ‘ll outperform most of it’s competitors within the blink of an eye.
If you are looking for a light-weight allround stick with maximum sensitivity and amazing performance, The “Quad Twister” is the way to go.
