Another trip to Spain is booked - time to prepare for one week of non-stop bass fishing

Yesterday I booked another trip to Andalucia for May, to finally get the chance to test recent tackle purchases with the one and only species that’s worth it - Bass. Back in January I (we) already spent a week in the south-west of Andalucia (Conil), but it was more the typical ‘couple’ holidays with walks at the Atlantic, plenty of tasty sea-food, cervezas and just a few hours of fishing.

Thanks to a like-minded head from Madrid (thanks again, David), I got some useful tips about promising ‘Embalses’, as well as some lure/bait related hints and suggestions. Travel destination is the area/region around Cordoba, just about two hours away (by car) from Malaga Airport. There are a handful of larger reservoirs around, a few of them with excellent reputation when it comes to black bass fishing.

For now it looks like I’ll start the one-week (24/7) fishing trip at Embalse de San Rafael de Navallana, with three more reservoirs in the pipe (Embalse del Guadalmellato, Embalse de Vadomojon, Embalse de Puente Nuevo). A quick online research already proved that most of them are worth a closer look and intense fishing excesses.

Taking summery temperatures for granted it seems to make sense to increase the ammount of top-water lures and “shallow divers’. Juts tested a few of the latest arrivals - Evergreen’s Crazycradle Ratatat Hypersonic and O.S.P.’s Buzzn Crank made a solid impression on me and could become useful ‘tools’ for the planned trip.

Phew… still 70 days left, time to start counting backwards. What could cause a better thrill (of anticipation) than a week in Spain all by one’s self - just equipped with one’s tackle and a toothbrush?
